Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and to safeguard our members, our AGM will be held virtually this year. This is an exciting time for our credit union, and we need you to help us take the next step forward. Join us!

What You Need To Do:

Step 1: Fill out and submit the AGM Pre-Registration Form on the right-hand side of this page.

Please ensure that you use a unique and valid email address, i.e. one that is not shared with other individuals.

Step 2: Watch your inbox for a confirmation email from SPARK. Please save this email.
This confirmation email will contain your personalized, one-click Zoom link to the AGM. This Zoom link is attributable to you; please do not share this email with anyone else.

Step 3: On March 23rd, retrieve the confirmation email containing your personalized, one-click Zoom link.

Click on this link 5 minutes before that AGM start date to be admitted to the online event.

1. Why do I need to pre-register?

Because the AGM is online this year, it is extremely important that you pre-register. This allows us to verify your voter eligibility prior to admittance to the Virtual AGM.

2. Why do you need to collect personal information to register me for the AGM?

Your personal information will be collected for the purposes of confirming your identity and voter status, registering you for our Virtual AGM, and providing you with your login credentials.

3. Why do I need to use my own unique email address?

Each AGM registrant needs their own unique email address to uphold the "one vote per member" rule. Your unique email address will be attributable to you and your vote(s) as a member, and therefore cannot be used by other voting members of SPARK.

4. What happens after I submit my pre-registration?

We will email your confirmation of registration with your unique, personalized Zoom link within two business days of your pre-registration.

1. Why is the AGM being held online?

The AGM will be held online for the safety of our members, and to adhere to Alberta Health guidelines that restrict mass in-person gatherings. An online meeting will also allow members outside of Calgary to participate more easily.

2. Will there be an in-person option to attend this meeting?

No. We understand that this change may be inconvenient for some, and hope that you will be able to join. For those unable to join us online, a recording of the Virtual AGM will be available for playback soon following the meeting.

3. What do I need to do to participate in the meeting and the vote?

Each individual member must pre-register on this page before March 16, 2021. We encourage you to pre-register as soon as possible.

Within 2 business days following your pre-registration, you will receive an email confirmation which will contain your personalized, one-click Zoom link to the AGM. Please make sure to keep this email for your access on March 23rd, and do not share this email with others.

4. Can I vote on behalf of my partner and/or other family members?

No. Only one vote per virtual attendee is allowed. All members are required to pre-register individually to receive their personalized, one-click Zoom link and to be able to vote.

5. When does the meeting start, and how long will it last?

Barring technical difficulties and delays, the meeting will begin promptly at 4:30 pm and will end at 6:00 pm.

6. How do I ask a question during the virtual AGM?

We encourage you to use Zoom's Q&A feature to ask questions during the virtual AGM. If you prefer to ask your questions verbally, you will be given the opportunity to voice your questions during designated portions of the meeting. We will go over our Virtual Meeting Rules of Engagement at the start of the meeting.

7. I may not be available to attend the AGM. Can I vote in advance?

No. Due to the regulations stated in the Credit Union Act, voting can only be conducted during the AGM.

8. What if a catastrophic event occurs on March 23, and the meeting is unable to proceed as planned?

If, for reasons beyond our control, the meeting cannot move forward as planned, we will send a postponement notification to all registered attendees as soon as possible, and provide an update by email and on our website. A back-up date of March 25, 2021 has been reserved in the event that we need to reschedule the AGM.


1. What is Zoom?

Zoom is a secure, cloud-based conferencing service that enables virtual meetings and webinars.

2. Will I need to download Zoom to attend the AGM?

If you are using a desktop or laptop computer, you may attend the Virtual AGM without downloading the Zoom program.

If you are using a tablet or mobile device, you will need to download Zoom to attend the Virtual AGM.

Included in the email with your registration confirmation, you will receive a link to download the app to your phone or mobile device.

To ensure that you are able to sign in promptly, please download and test the Zoom app a few days before the meeting.

3. How can I familiarize myself with Zoom?

We encourage you to take advantage of Zoom's extensive help center for guidance. If you are completely new to Zoom, you may find the following instructional videos and guides useful:

If you need additional support to use Zoom for participating in the Virtual AGM, we encourage you to ask the following people for help:

  • A friend
To give you the support you need to prepare for the Virtual AGM, SPARK will be holding two Virtual Information Sessions.


1. Who is a voting member?

Per SPARK's By-laws, a voting member is:
  • A current member of SPARK who is of the age of majority as of the February 16, 2021 (record date).
  • Where the member of the credit union is other than a natural person (e.g. corporations), the credit union shall recognize an individual authorized by resolution of the directors or governing body of that member to represent it at the meeting.
  • A member may vote in their own right, as well as the corporation(s) or association(s) they represent, as long as the body corporate (s) or association (s) is a member.

Important: If you would like to attend on behalf of your member corporation/association, please contact us right away, no later than March 15, 2021.

2. How do we move and second a motion using the Zoom app?

After the Board Chair calls the question, voting members will use the chat function for motioning and seconding.

3. How can we vote on resolutions using the Zoom app?

Once the resolution is brought forward by the Board Chair, a pop-up poll will appear on attendees' screens. Voting members will use the pop-up poll to cast their vote with either a: Yes, No, or Abstain.

Please note: We will go over the Virtual AGM Rules of Engagement at the start of the meeting to ensure that all attendees are familiar with Zoom's voting functionalities.

You might find the Virtual Information Sessions useful if you would like to ask questions about:
  • The special resolution and potential amalgamation with Connect First Credit Union*
  • How to join and participate in our Virtual AGM
  • How to use Zoom to vote for motions and resolutions
  • How to ask questions at the Virtual AGM

2. Do I need to attend both sessions?

No. These sessions are optional. You may choose to attend one or both sessions, depending on your needs.

3. How do I register to attend one or both sessions?

4. What if I am unable to make it?

Not a problem. We will record both sessions and will make them available for on-demand playback for our members within 1-2 business days following the event.
