Helping ease the financial impact of COVID-19

We know that many Albertans are facing financial challenges, so SPARK launched its Banking Support and Member Relief program to provide immediate assistance to those who need it most.

A Relief Request Form is now available so that you can request support online, quickly and easily.

We've received an unprecedented number of inquiries from our members. Our Financial Advisors and Member Service Reps are actively engaged in supporting those of us that have been affected by COVID-19. We thank you for your continued patience in light of slower than usual response times.

Doing our part to help flatten the curve

Below are some of the steps that SPARK has taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to protect our members, employees, and the communities that we serve:

  • We closed our branches to member traffic effective March 19, and majority of our employees are now working remotely
  • Banking services are available online24 hours a day, and by phone during our regular hours of operation: Monday to Friday, 8 am to 3 pm
  • Please make sure that you are set up to use the SPARKCU Mobile App for your day-to-day banking transactions such as:
    • Sending and receiving funds using Interac E-Transfer
    • Depositing cheques using Deposit Anywhere
    • Bill payments, account inquiries, statement searches, and more.
    • As a reminder, ATM functionality may be limited during this time, so please utilize the SPARKCU Mobile Banking app to minimize disruption and ensure timely access.

SPARK Member Relief and Banking Support Program

Your team at SPARK is taking significant measures to take care of and safeguard our employees, members, and the communities that we serve during this unprecedented time.

In light of the recent economic and financial slowdown resulting from COVID019, many Albertans may experience financial difficulty.  As a response, SPARK officially launched its Member Relief and Banking Support Program yesterday, to provide temporary loan and mortgage payment relief to members who are facing financial challenges as a result of this global crisis.

We understand that there are many different ways our members may be affected financially by COVID-19. This may include financial strain ensuing from or a decrease in hours or the loss of a paycheck, or significant reductions in revenue for small business owners as demand for services and foot traffic diminish. SPARK is committed to working with our members, on a case-by-case basis to ease your financial challenges.

We are offering payment deferrals on loans, mortgages, and lines of credit at an individualized level because we understand that each situation is rarely cut and dry, and that the only way for us to make it through is by supporting one another. Currently we are able to offer our members payment deferrals for up to three months.  If you are feeling financially vulnerable, we encourage you to seek relief. Important information regarding banking services during the COVID-19 pandemic

Dear Member-owners,

Like you, we've been keeping a close eye on the evolving COVID-19 situation in the province and around the world. In line with Alberta Health's aggressive measures to help slow the spread of COVID-19 in Alberta, and the City of Calgary's recent declaration of a Local State of Emergency, SPARK will be closing its branches effective March 19, 2020 until further notice.

While this is an unprecedented situation, this decision was made in the interest of public health to protect the well-being of our employees, members, and the communities that we serve.

As of March 19, we will continue to be available by phone and online to serve your needs during our regular hours of operation (8:00 am to 3:00 pm). While you may experience slower than usual response times due to a high volume of member inquiries, rest assured we remain committed to supporting you during this period of uncertainty.

To minimize interruptions to your banking access, we ask the following of you:

Check your online and mobile banking access

We'd like to remind you that you can do most of your banking online with your smartphone or mobile device of choice.

Services such as free, unlimited e-transfers*, bill payments, and remote cheque deposits are available to you at any time of the day, and without visiting a branch. Download the SPARKCU Mobile Banking App on the App Store or Google Play. To ensure continued access to online banking, we ask that you sign in to your SPARK account online or via the app at least once a month.If you don't have access to online banking, get set up today.
Use SPARK's ATM network

SPARK is part of Canada's largest network of ding-free ATMs, which means you can withdraw and deposit cash, and make account inquiries using your SPARK MemberCard without any surcharges. Find out where you can conduct ding-free transactions by looking for credit union ATMs with the Acculink symbol, or by downloading the ding-free locator app here.

ATM functionality may be limited during this time. To ensure timely access to deposits, it is advised that you use the remote deposit functionality on your mobile device.

During this time, we will continue to employ stringent sanitation and hygiene practices to prevent the further spread of COVID-19. We implore our members and visitors to do the same. This includes frequent hand-washing and hand-sanitation, increased sanitation of high-touch areas, and vigilant social distancing - that is, keeping a distance of at least one body length from others. If you are ill or have recently been in contact with someone who is ill, please stay at home.
