SPARK The Energy Credit Union (SPARK) is seeking passionate advocates for the people of Alberta’s energy industry to run for our Board of Director elections.

As a SPARK Director, you will play a pivotal role in helping steer SPARK as we move forward in a new strategic direction.  You will steward the SPARK vision and help strengthen our ties to the energy industry by being an ambassador of our brand.  In turn, you will be tasked with the effective governance and oversight of Alberta’s ninth-largest credit union and the ONLY financial services institution established to help the people of the energy industry thrive in good times and be resilient in challenging times.

We are currently looking for dynamic and experienced nominees in the areas of Strategic Business Planning, Marketing & Communications, IT, and Human Resources.  Nominees must be adult members in good standing with SPARK.  Due to the sensitive nature of our business, a credit and security check will be conducted to ensure nominees meet the minimum requirements as per Section 65 of the Credit Union Act.  

If successfully elected by our members, you will serve a three-year term and will be expected to adhere to the following commitments:

  • Approximately one board meeting per month (2-3 hours) and participation in at least one sub-committee of the board (additional 2-3 hours; sub-committees include audit finance, governance, risk, human resources, and marketing);
  • Participation in SPARK’s annual business planning session and follow-up; and
  • Availability to consult with the credit union on matters related to your area of expertise.

  • Number of positions open: Three, three-year terms
  • Deadline for application: Wednesday, January 30, 2019
  • Elections will be conducted through online voting: February 11 to February 28, 2019
  • Election results will be announced on March 13, 2019 at our Annual General Meeting held at the Carriage House Inn.
